The questions people actually ask us.
No jargon and no sales talk. If your question is not here, call us on 07396 035958 and we will answer it plainly.
Do I really need a Will?
If you own a home, have children, are unmarried, have been divorced, or simply want to choose who gets what, then yes. Without a Will the law decides for you, and the answer is rarely the one families expect.
How much does a Will cost?
A Standard Will is £125 for one person and £199 for a couple. Complex and Trust Wills are £200 for one person and £350 for a couple, with each additional trust at £50 per trust, per person. A £12 Case Management Fee applies to each document. The fee is agreed before any work begins, so there are no surprises.
How long does it take?
Most Wills are ready within a week or two. We have a proper conversation first, you get a draft to read at your own pace, and we make any changes before you sign.
Where do we meet?
Online by video call, or in your own home. Evening appointments are available, because days get taken up with work, school runs and family life.
Are you a solicitor?
No. We are a will writing practice. That means fixed fees, evenings and home visits, and no hourly billing. If your situation needs a solicitor, for example a dispute or a complicated tax question, we will tell you honestly rather than take the work.
What is a mirror Will?
Two separate Wills for a couple, written in almost identical terms, usually leaving everything to each other and then to the children. They are not joint Wills, and either of you can change your own later.
What is a Property Protection Trust?
It puts your share of the family home into a trust when you die, so your partner can carry on living there while your share is kept for your children. Families often look at it where there are children from an earlier relationship.
What is a Lasting Power of Attorney?
It lets someone you trust make decisions for you if you become unable to. There are two kinds, one for property and money, one for health and care. One LPA is £120, two are £200, and all four for a couple are £350. There may also be OPG registration fees, currently £92 per LPA, payable to the Office of the Public Guardian.
Can I write my own Will?
You can, and plenty of people do. The trouble is that small mistakes in wording, witnessing or signing can make the whole thing fail, and nobody finds out until it is too late to fix.
What happens if I get married or divorced?
Marriage usually cancels an existing Will. Divorce does not cancel it, but it treats your former husband or wife as though they had died first. Either way, it is worth having your Will looked at again.
Where should I keep my Will?
Somewhere safe and findable. We will talk you through storage and registration, and make sure your executors know where to look. Never staple anything to it or write on it.
Which areas do you cover?
London, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire for home visits, and anywhere in England and Wales by video call.
