Someone you trust, ready to help if you cannot.
A Lasting Power of Attorney lets you choose, while you are well, who would step in if illness or an accident meant you could not make decisions yourself. Without one, your family may have to apply to the Court of Protection, which takes months and costs far more.
The two kinds
Property and Financial Affairs. Paying bills, running bank accounts, dealing with pensions and, if it ever comes to it, selling a house.
Health and Welfare. Day to day care, where you live, and medical treatment. This one only comes into effect if you lose the ability to decide for yourself.
Most people put both in place. They cover very different ground.
What we do
We talk through who you would like to appoint and what you would want them to do, prepare the forms, get the signing and witnessing right, act as your certificate provider where appropriate, and guide the registration with the Office of the Public Guardian from start to finish.
Our fees
- One LPA: £120
- Two LPAs: £200
- All four for a couple: £350
There may be OPG registration fees, currently £92 per LPA. Those are paid to the Office of the Public Guardian, not to us, and reductions are available on lower incomes.
Common questions
Can I still make my own decisions? Yes. An LPA does not take anything away from you while you are able to decide for yourself.
Is it only for older people? No. Accidents and illness do not check your age. Plenty of people in their thirties and forties put one in place alongside their Will.
Can I cancel it? Yes, at any time, as long as you still have capacity.
